In response to the Province’s announcement to accelerate the rollout of its COVID-19 vaccine program(external link), Halton Region is moving forward with a vaccination schedule for the month of May to vaccinate those most at risk in the Halton community.
Our Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr says, "Halton Region is pleased that we are able to offer appointments to more residents, including essential workers, as vaccine supply is expected to increase. Our ability to expand to more eligible groups remains dependent on ongoing and predictable supplies from both the Provincial and Federal governments."
Halton’s vaccination schedule aligns with the Province’s direction to prioritize vaccination based on age and risk(external link). Halton is making essential workers a priority as there continues to be higher rates of infection among those who cannot work from home. Age also continues to be a predictor for a higher risk of severe illness and death. To protect the community and reduce risk for everyone, our plan will roll out appointment bookings to Halton residents in priority sequence as follows:
Halton Region Public Health will not be making exceptions and the plan is contingent on vaccine supply from the Federal and Provincial Governments.
Halton Region Public Health is also reminding residents that full protection from COVID-19 is not achieved until at least two weeks after an individual’s second dose. At this time, all Halton residents, regardless of vaccination status, should continue to stay home as much as possible, only go out for essential reasons and only gather indoors and outdoors with their households. When out in public for essential reasons or enjoying outdoor activity, please wear your mask and keep a two-metre distance from anyone outside your household.
