We received a quick reply to our letter from Halton Health Care Services Corporation President John Oliver on Thursday. Mr. Oliver responded to most of the questions we posed, but left some unanswered for Town staff to address. Read Oliver Reply Here
I appreciate the quick response and the openness of the reply and I will review his comments in detail over the next few days along with an anticpated reply by Town of Oakville CAO, Ray Green.
I am shocked that our letter seems to have gone viral and has been distributed far and wide across Oakville. Most of the response has been favourable, but a few people are concerned that we are trying to stop or delay the project. Nothing could be further from the truth! I have been a new hospital booster for years and I am totally “on side” with the need, however I remain troubled by the lack information that I need to make an informed vote at Council and I am deeply worried about having to potentially make this “contribution” on credit! $200million is a massive amount of money in and of itself, but when you tack on interest for 30 years, that number becomes a lot larger.
The Mayor has apparently asked the province to give us more time before making a decision and I am curious to see if the request will be granted, but my instinct in that they will not. This matter is beofre Council on Monday, March 1, 2010 and I will be spending much of the days remaining trying to make sense of all of this so that I am prepared to make the right decision.
More to come…
